Fantabulous!, February 17, 2006
This is a travel guide with an attitude.
And Bonnie Stone's attitude is, "How unique is this?" I've lived in the
Antelope Valley eight years, and Bonnie has unearthed destinations and
facts that I've never heard of. We have out-of-town guests coming from
New Jersey, and I bought a copy for them, too. Who can resist a
guidebook that lists "the world's only drive-through earthquake fault"?
(Yup,it's the San Andreas.) This book's a keeper!

Years ago while in high school I would
bus to Lancaster to play basket ball and run track and always thought,
"Who would ever want to live in this burning desert with its torrid
heat, high winds and blowing dust." I now live in the Antelope Valley
and am enjoying it immensely because of Bonnie Stone's new book about
the Antelope Valley. If you enjoy history, like finding new nearby
places to visit or just learning everything about the area around
Lancaster, Palmdale and Mojave this is the only book you'll ever need.
The other day I looked for interesting places to take my 8 year old
grandson and settled on The "Milestones of Flight Air Museum" listed in
the book. It was a great trip. I am looking forward to visiting many
other interesting places mentioned in her book. It would make a very
nice gift for anyone living in southern California.

As a mom of five children, I'm always on
the lookout for things to do in our area. I came across this book and
feel that I found a treasure trove of information. We've already seen
the Vasquez rocks and an Air Museum based on her recommendation and the
kids are really loving it. This is a good book for family fun.

Humorous guide to Antelope Valley , February 12, 2006

For the many people new to the Antelope
Valley of California, this book should be a "MUST HAVE". It is a
humorous, accurate guide to the many unusual things to see and do within
a short drive from home and available at low cost or free. You think
there is nothing to do in the desert north of Los Angeles? Yes, there
is, and Stone shows you how to find those things. People who have lived
here for years will also find much information they may not have known.
This book will be especially useful for families.

You've got to read this book. Some
history/travel guilds are a little dull, but not this one. Even if you
never visit the Antelope Valley this book will give readers a look at
some of the interesting and fun places that exist in California.
Do you know where the world's largest energy producer is located and
what the energy source consists of?
Would you like to know where you could drive through an earthquake fault
or see the world's rarest cats?
Are you interested in visiting the largest concentration of petroglyphs
in the Western Hemisphere, or seeing the world's largest open-pit mine?
How about seeing miles and acres of hillsides covered with gold - golden
poppies that is?
If you visit the Antelope Valley area this book is a gold mine of
information and history. If you don't visit this area (and I've bought
and sent books to relatives who don't live in southern California just
because the book is so fascinating), you'll learn all kinds of fun and
interesting facts about the California desert and more.
The author, Bonnie D. Stone is an award-winning journalist and the
writing in this book is evidence of that. You can't miss with this book;
it is well worth the cover price.

Loads of fun, February 7, 2006
San Andreas Ain't No Fault of Mine, as
the title suggests, is as fun to read as it is interesting and
informative. My family has lived in the Antelope Valley for 30 years and
even they didn't know about all the fun-filled facts found in the book.
I recommend this title to anyone who lives in the AV, is considering
moving to the AV, or anyone who's just plain curious.

My review is for the 1st edition - 2nd
edition is pending (hence the 4 stars instead of 5!) This is a cute book
and reveals that there are a lot of interesting places and things in
what many, erroneously, consider a "dry" area in culture as well
climate. I wish more places had a book like this - the better to get to
know an area!
